YOUNG ARTISTS’ AND CARTOONISTS COMPETITION
“Carbon”, sole theme for the 2019 edition of Inchiostro Festival, is not merely a word but a concept to be expanded on to inspire free expression in the work of participants in the Young Artists’ Competition.
Art. 1 – PropostAL, the association that promotes Inchiostro Festival, announces a competition for young illustrators leading to an exhibition at the 2019 edition of the festival.
Art. 2 – Entry to the competition is free and open to all young men and women between the ages of 16 and 25 at the time they send the work, and aimed at aspiring Italian and overseas non-professional artists.

Art. 4 – Participants must guarantee authorship of the work they present. Any plagiarism will result in automatic disqualification;
Art. 5 – Submitted work for the competition must be in black and white (including all the shades of grey)
Art. 6 – Participants must send an A4 (21X29.7 cm) sheet, in any technique on paper or card. No entries of a larger size with passepartout or any other kind of frame will be taken into consideration. For digital images a high definition print is required.
Art. 7 – The sheet must be sent in a sealed envelope to the festival office at the reception of IL Chiostro Hostel & Hotel – Piazza Santa Maria di Castello, 14 – 15121 Alessandria, by post or courier (postage at the expense of the sender) or handed in (opening hours: Mon. to Fri. from 10,00 to 12,00 and from 16,00 to 18,00.), by and no later than Monday 20th May 2019 at 12:00 o’clock, clearly labelled “Concorso Inchiostro Festival”. All work arriving after this date will not be taken into consideration whatever the sending date.
Art. 8 – All participants must enrol by filling out the online form at www.inchiostrofestival.com/web/form-concorso-giovani/
Furthermore, participants must attach a signed printout of the consent form with their original work. Minors (those under 18 years of age at the moment of application) must have consent from their parents or legal guardian. All participants are also invited to follow, share, comment on and interact with the official Festival Facebook and Instagram pages.
Art. 9 – Full personal data including name, surname, address, title of works submitted, e-mail and telephone number must be on the back of the original work.
Art.10 – Competing works will be judged by a jury made up of invited artists at the Carbon Edition of the Festival, all professionals with great experience in this field. The jury’s verdicts are irrevocable and unappealable.
Art. 11 – The ten artworks chosen by the jury as most deserving will be put on display in the Fresco Room in the cloister of Santa Maria di Castello, Alessandria, on the 1st and 2nd of June, 2019 . Every artwork selected will benefit from a written comment by the professional artists, containing constructive criticism and suggesting ways their talent could be further developed.
Art. 12 – The jury will select a winner, runner-up and third place from those selected to participate. All three will be invited as guest artists at the 2020 edition of the Festival, where they will be able to sit by the headline artists and may also be invited to participate at other events connected to the Festival and its partner organisations, with their names appearing on the posters and promotional material
The first ten selected will receive (only at the Festival on the 1st and 2nd of June 2019) a kit of Pentel Italy professional-standard instruments;
Art. 13 – The Franco Sassi Prize
For those who choose to enter an engraving, the one chosen as best from the works in the competition will be given the chance to print a run of 50 copies at one of the Inchiostro Festival partner art printers.
Art. 14 – The Exhibition and the prize-giving ceremony will be held inside the Inchiostro Festival. The names of those selected and the winners will be made known through the press, the event website and related social media;
Art. 15 – No submitted work will be returned by post. Any returns must be requested during the Festival at the Productions Office, or by e-mail to the administration office: email@example.com to be collected in person or by proxy. No costs will be borne by the organisers;
Art. 16 – The organising Committee reserves the right to hold in its archives the 10 works which become part of the exhibition, to be used in any future restaging at another site or as part of another exhibition.
Art. 17 – Participants recognise that Inchiostro Festival will not be held responsible for any liability, including accidental damage, loss, theft or fire damage during transportation, display or later archival.
Art. 18 – Participants recognise the right of Inchiostro Festival to reproduce their work in any paper, digital or website catalogue, and on the social media thereto associated, on posters, flyers or any other printout connected with the exhibition itself, as well as any other media for the purposes of promoting the event. The organisation guarantees that the author of the work will be cited in every such instance.
Art. 19 – By entering this competition, all participants implicitly accept all the rules and regulations pertaining to it. The Organisation reserves the right of final judgement in all disputes and on every matter which has not been expressly mentioned.
